Dearborn Family Farm and Pumpkin Patch is offering various hands-on education field trip programs.
Available mostly for homeschool ages and groups, all ages and groups are welcome.
During the program, children and parents will get to interact with local farmers and learn hands on skills about various topics including:
Nutrition and why homegrown food tastes better
The grow cycle on a farm (seed starting, planting, watering, harvesting, seed collection).
How to start seeds and maintain the market garden
How to properly weed and water plants
Identification of plants and pests
The importance of pollinators and the different types.
How to select the best companion plants for your garden
Soil health 101 (testing and compost to amend the soil)
The best gardening methods (no til and the importance of mulch/wood chips for water retention)
Stewardship of the land and the importance of growing your own food and sourcing locally
